Looks Chinese

Japanese Imari Jar Hi Jan-Eric,

We have this vase which looks Chinese, any ideas on what it is

First of all, it is Japanese

Your jar is definitely Japanese and with so called "Japanese Imari" decoration. A likely date is from late 19th century.

I have thought long and well on this because some late 17th century Japanese wares are very similar in their careless rendering of flowers, but due to its garish colors and the bottom border which does not occur on earlier wares, I feel pretty safe in suggesting this to be a typical Late Meji Japanese Imari jar, and unfortunately without its lid.

Thank you for your interest.

Best regards,
Jan-Erik Nilsson
